The Everyday Project Day 98

Half and Half - the fraction not the coffee cream.

The Serious Half
As you may know, I am reading Night by Holocaust survivor,Eli Weisel, with my HS tutor student. We are up to the part where the Jews of the town of Sighet arrive at Auchwitz and are faced with their almost certain death.
Me: What do you think about this?
Him: Why didn't they try to do something?
Me: They refused to listen to the warnings, they trusted in God and their fellow human beings and they didn't want to see and believe what was right in front of them.
Him: Well that wouldn't happen today.
Me: It's happening in several places in Africa. Google it. You will probably get bonus points with your teacher for making a connection with today.
Him: Not with the ovens.
Me: But with violence, rape, torture and mass genocide.
Him: Why doesn't anyone do something?
Me: Some people try but not enough. How do you feel about the book so far.
Him: Indifferent.
Me: Why?
Him: Because I spend most of my time in History and English thinking about if I could go back in time with the weapons we have today and fight the battles.

Points for honesty, I'm not sure on the empathy or the logic.

Funny Half:
Colin plays various video games. He talks to them like crazy.
Colin: Awesome! awesome! what???? That's preposterous! You're stupid. Where's the ball??? It's not fair! Ye-ah! Random notices ( fart sounds) awwwe slide tackle.

I'm secretly cracking up. Not once did he say "evil bastard"  (inside joke)

It is what it is...

  1. Oh MB, you haven't lived until your son yells evil bastard at minecraft....especially when he thinks he made up the word bastard and it is just a fun word to say, as he repeats bastard again..and again...and again....(inside joke). But i think that might be better than fart sounds!! LOL
