Find The Pickle

A Christmas tradition in our house is called "find the pickle"?

The pickle ornament is hidden on the tree and the lucky finder gets a dollar and a year of good luck. Cara loves this game. This year I hid it and she found it in about 5 minutes. So when she asks me to hide it again, I tell her she is not getting a dollar everytime she finds it, she says it's just for practice for Christmas Day. When she finds it, I hide it again but she is really good at it. So I start hiding it around the living room and in different places.

Cara: Where's the pickle?

Me: I hid it.

Cara: On the tree?

Me: I hid it.

Cara: Where?

Me: Isn't that the point, for me to hide it?

Cara: Not on the tree?

Me: Find it. That's the point.

So for the next few days the pickle game has expanded. Then Cadence comes over. Cara tells her about the pickle game. Find the Pickle has gone to a whole new level. They hide it everywhere. They give clues. They give hidden clues. I notice the hanger has broken off the pickle so I ask them if they broke it. They say it's just the hanger part and it's really old.

On Christmas Eve, I go in to give Cara her blessing. I can tell there is something wrong. She says "nothing" as she starts to cry.

Me: What's wrong?

Cara: I can't tell you.

Me: Are you hurt?

Cara: No

Me: Then what?

Cara: Something bad happened.

Me: What?

Cara holds up a ziplock with the broken pickle and bursts into tears.

Me: Its just an ornament.

Cara: Tt's the pickle. It's old and valuable.

Me: It's just a pickle ornament. We can find another one.

Cara: I don't think so.

Me: Sure we can. There's eBay, Amazon...

Cara: But not in time for Christmas. I need to find it on the tree so I can get my dollar.

It is what it is...
