The Everyday Project Day 163

One of the first people we met upon joining Mira Mesa West Little League was Joe R. He is your classic "old white guy." He says what he thinks, retired military, is totally un PC and can't hear very well. Here is a bit of background.

His wife passed away a number of years ago. Joe has a big heart and will do anything for his kids and 16 grandkids. His kids have not made the best choices, thus the 16 grandkids,  but Joe supports them the best he can. We are close with Vince, his 6 or so kids and his new wife Christina.  Joe has a new girlfriend, Stephanie. Stephanie moved in next door 9 months ago. Today was Joe's 65th birthday party. Scott and I felt we should go. Neither of us really wanted to but its what we do to support our friends. Since my dad is here visiting he goes too. Cara opted out as there would be no one there for her. Colin, the party hater, went because Seth (grandkid) spent the night at our house.

The cigarette smoke hits us halfway up the walkway. Greeted at the door by a giant pit bull. Scott refuses to go in. Pitbull gets put in bedroom. Put beer we bring in cooler, thinking we will exchange it for some cold beer they already have. No cold beer. We are offered whiskey shot and Fireball (cinnamon whiskey). I had the Fireball. Dad had the warm beer. Colin is sitting on the van roof because Seth ditched him for his video game fiend cousin. . Scott takes him home. I say you better come back and not ditch us. We don't know any of the other party guests and although they are perfectly nice, its not our regular crowd. When the talk turns to the strippers who may show up, I tell Dad to eat up. Scott says the kids are texting us to come home. We are out.

Its redneck Mira Mesa...who knew?

It is what it is...
Namaste
