The Everyday Project Day 83

Elvis Night...
Love Me Tender
You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog
Jailhouse Rock
Heartbreak Hotel

Pause here... I know you are all singing in your head.

At the Super Bowl Party, Cara falls  in love with a cock a poo puppy they had there.

Love me tender, love me sweet...

After every time she said, " Isn't it cute????" I was expecting, " When can we get one?" But no.... the crafty girl says, " Mom, do you think you will be ready to get a new dog any time soon?" I had been anticipating this question for a few weeks now.

After school field trip to the SD Humane Society. These dogs are all well staged in their doggie apartments with couches, coffee tables and Tvs.

Lists of requirements:
Medium/small
Non or little shedding
Poodle mix preferably cock a poo or Labradoodle
1-3 year age range ( don't have time to train and housebreak)
No pit bull or pit bull mix
No shepherd ( too much shedding)
Not barking or whining at us in the kennel.
All family members must agree in the end.

Ain't nothin' but a hound dog, crying all time...

We don't find one there but across the parking lot is the SD County Shelter. Its a completey different organization. These dogs are in cages. No couches, 2-3 per kennel. Different adoption rules.
Colin says it looks like jail...

Jailhouse Rock

The huskie Colin liked had the maximum of 2 holds on it. So probably it's a no. He only likes bigger dogs and not poodle mixes. Loves the shepherds.

Cara loves the poodle mixes. She liked the huskie too. They had 2 cock a poos. Tears are pooling in the eyes because the rule is everyone has to agree and she knows Colin is going either not going to agree or pull a pout, which is pretty much the same thing.

Nothing we can do so we leave.

We get home and both kids go directly to their rooms.

Heartbreak Hotel....
Bottom line is:
We can't put a hold on any dog because I have to work on Friday and can't go down there between 10 and 11 am to interact with the 3 dogs we are looking at. So...
We'll have to see what the weekend brings and hopefully something good will happen and the 2 cock a poos don't have holds on them and will still be available.

The Everyday Project Day 82

Here's a new item to be filed under the "it's always something" category.

Someone stole our website. What??? You ask?

Scott texts me: The website expired. Did you pay the bill?
Me: Expired? I just spent 3 hours yesterday doing the schedules. You would think I would have gotten a notice of some sort.

I go to the website. Check our account info. Everything is in order. We need to renew in Nov. 2013.

Text him back that its not expired. We go back and forth for 10 minutes as I'm looking at the website. So I decide to check from my iPad. Sure enough it brings up some weird website that our domain name has expired. We do everything from the approve LL website and this has scam written all over it. So I email their  support desk. God forbid they would have a phone number to call.

In the meantime, things are not going fast enough for Scott. He and a coworker somehow track down the person that is parked on our website. Turns out the physical address is AROUND THE CORNER! And I KNOW WHO HE IS! AND HIS FAMILY!

It seems that he hijacks websites and makes people pay to get their name back. I tell Scott he is a bartender at Callahan's so Scott calls Coach Buddy, who has a permanent chair over there, and tells him to get our website back. The Dramagnet. It's been almost 12 hours since he has something to fret about.  It's always something.

The Everyday Project Day 81

New word kiddies... Dramagnet - person who attracts drama.

Not necessarily starts drama. Just attracts it.

Sometimes it is best to be pro active. Sometimes not. Sometimes its good to just let things play out.

Just sayin'

Totally jacked my back today, I'm not sure when probably in yoga... Dang it hurts. Remedy? Wine for the whine.

It all works out in the end.

The Everyday Project Day 80

Super Bowl Sunday

Started my day off by driving Colin's friend, Seth, back to El Cajon. Note to self: don't believe a 13 year old when they say they know their way home. Well, he knew the way but not how to give driving directions. I used to work in El Cajon. It is 40 minutes away.

Me: Seth, do know know how to get home from here.
Seth: yes
Me: So take the 15 to the 8 east? What exit off the 8?
Seth: ummm, I don't really know the names. I'll tell you when I get there. It takes 20 min.  Why do I have to go home now? Why can't I stay?
Me: I go to yoga at 10. Colin has soccer tryouts and then we are going to a Super Bowl Party. Now is the best time. Lets go.

Our ride goes like this:
Seth: turn here, oh you missed it.
Me: Holy crap! I'm going 75 and in the left lane, you have to give me some notice.
Seth: get off here
Me: holy crap! Let me know before we get there.
Me: Seth!!!!!!

I finally figure out the way he is telling me so I ask him before we get to the exit or turn.

I left and hour and a half to get back before yoga. With all the missed turns, now I'm racing to get there on time, thinking this is not so zen, speeding down the freeway to get to yoga.

I'm 10 minutes late. I look in the door and the class is sitting with their eyes closed. I try to sneak in. With her eyes still closed the teacher is saying: go inward, ignore outside noises and distractions. Busted.

We go to the annual Schulte Super Bowl Party and Chili Contest. We have been going there at least 15 years. Scott didn't make chili this year. Even though he has won about 12 out of the 15 times, he was too stressed and didn't have time with his new boss, baseball, etc. I told him I would shop and chop but no deal. His head wasn't in it. At half time they start giving out the awards. Scott gets the "Lifetime Achievement Award" No chili and still an award!
Nice! It's great to catch up with friends but we left at half time. Colin didn't go because he is in a 13 year old funk. Said he sucked at soccer tryouts today. Duh! He hasn't played anything in 5 months. Kid needs to get back in shape. Which he will cause that's  how he rolls.

On my couch, drinking my mimosa... Loving my life

The Everyday Project Day 79 1/2

Bonus edition. Thought you all might like to see what went out the the league tonight. If you're in for the blog, you're in for the blast...

Wow! What a great turnout for the Field Clean Up Day and All League Meeting! As I am continually told.. why didn't we take before and after pictures? Probably because the "Before" was the best I have seen in my 7 years with the league. As I looked out over the full stands,I did see a few shocked looks when I said the city didn't give us ANY money and some of the things we pay for such as Porta Potties, trash, dirt and equipment. It really is all us.

Thanks are in order. First, to everyone who showed up ready to work. How cute were those t-ball kids with the giant rakes?

To Eric Christian (minors manager), his family and his crew for leading the work party, bringing the bobcat and earthmovers, getting the the snack shack gate fixed and finally submitting his expense receipts.
To Chris Salas (t-ball manager) for being the mostly unseen worker bee who is constantly at the fields, cutting, raking, fixing, cleaning and organizing. The equipment sheds look almost as good as Nordstrom.
To the Intermediate Division Managers and crew for taking on the huge project of rebuilding the bullpen and the infield.
To Cara M and Laura P for running the snack shack and making sure everyone was well hydrated with water , Gatorade and slushies.
To the Fletcher Padres tball team for cleaning the snack shack inside and out.
To Jennifer Widhopf (treasurer) for paying our bills, making the budget, and keeping our money and registration logs so organized and in order.
To Scott MacNaughton (player agent) for putting the teams together, making all the schedules, chasing paperwork and proofs of residence as well as uploading all the information to LL International. (And he is also a great husband).
To Sarah Barrett for sending all the email blasts on a moments notice.

Many thanks especially to all the managers, coaches, umpires, parents and volunteers who are carrying on the Little League tradition for our Mira Mesa community. MMWLL would not exist without its heart and soul... the volunteers.

Remember we communicate through these emails, the website www.MMWLL.org and Facebook. Our group is Mira Mesa West Little League.

Let's Play Ball!

The Everyday Project Day 79

Field Clean Up Day was a huge success! We got a big majority of our parents out to get the scoop on the season and get working on the fields. When I started going through our big expenditures and what the registration fees and fundraisers actually go to, I think there were some surprises. Almost $4000 for Porta Potties.

Those kids out there working were great. Cara,  with her casted hand, worked the snack shack for most of the day and was a great help to me.

Scott and some of the other dads rebuilt the intermediate division pitching mounds.

Colin has a friend over and the tent is set up. Good to get the stinky boys out back.

As I have said many times before, there is nothing like the shower and the 1st cold beer after a day at the fields.

Let's let the drama be over and the great season begin!

The Everyday Project Day 78

Oh No!!! I missed yesterday. Boo on me. So sorry peeps.

I spent the morning cleaning out the snack shack. Why me, you ask? Why not the snack bar manager? Hmmm good question. Seems she came down with the flu. Not that I don't believe her, just another dirty job that someone has to do. When I need something done, that someone is always me.

Let's just say the refrigerator and the soda cooler were something out of Kitchen Nightmare. I heard Gordon Ramsey cursing in my mind.

Then it was Family Science Night at Wangenheim. Colin said its for nerds. Cara wanted to go. Colin called her a nerd. She said better a nerd than a butt. And so on...

I didn't get home until after 8. Then I had to help Colin catch up on 3 days worth of homework. After that I was brain dead and completely for got to blog. Awww, poor me.

So... I worked today in my favorite moderate/severe autistic class. I don't know what was worse, the 45 minutes I did bubbles or the fit that ensued when I finally made them quit the bubbles. Poor kids.

Tomorrow is our mandatory All League Meeting and Work Party. I have my agenda written. Itunes is now updated on the computer. Playlist made. Sound System checked. I was even lucky enough to get the slushie guy over to get the slushie machine cleaned and running for tomorrow. The website and Facebook is updated.

Wine in hand.
