I had something a little funny that I was thinking about posting today however I learned that a friend just lost her husband in a motorcycle accident this afternoon. They were not close friends but definitely in our outer circle.
Scott called as I was dropping Cara off at baseball to say he was running late. Another person at the field said there was a fatality motorcycle crash on Miramar Road. As people kept drifting in late, they all commentated on the traffic delay. I kind of said a little prayer and then put it out of my mind. Little did I know that when I went to pick Cara up at a birthday party that I would find out it was someone I knew.
So no funny post tonight. It doesn't seem the time is right.

Cara's follow up:
This is the email I sent to her teacher. Pretty non-confrontational as I see it.
Cara would like to share in class tomorrow.
She did share some disturbing information this afternoon. Cara said some kids were laughing and joking during the video. When I questioned her further as to what the teacher did, she said you may not have heard or you had stepped out of the room for a moment. Cara was really upset at this behavior and it was the 1st thing she mentioned when I picked her up. I would like to assume had you known that laughing and joking was going on, you would have stopped it.
I thought you should know that this was going on as Cara may not bring it up to you.

Wow, I'm shocked at the behavior she heard. I did not hear it. I did step across the doorway briefly, but it was silent when I returned. I will address it in a meaningful way, not pointing to Cara.

So... Cara presented her stuff to the class and she said they were very interested. She said the teacher said something like: Most of you were new born babies if you were born at all when 9/11 happened. While people on the west coast were horrified and shocked, most were not affected the way the east coast was. Those people had family and loved ones who were killed or rescue workers or survivors. WE ALL need to be considerate and respectful because only by geography, you were not affected.

The Everyday Project Day 297
Since the whole school watched a video on 9/11 during the advisory class, Cara did not get to show her stuff this morning. When I picked her up she was steaming mad.
Me: How was your day?
Cara: I didn't get to show my stuff today in advisory because we watched a video. I am sooooo mad, I wanted to punch some kids.
Me: Why?
Cara: Because they were laughing and joking during the video. They were so disrespectful and I was so sad for the victims and the rescuers.
Me: Did the teacher do anything?
Cara: I'm not sure she knows because they were quiet.
She will know now.
Her teacher emailed me to say Cara can show her stuff tomorrow. She will know. I also posted it on Facebook so...

The Everyday Project Day 296
I'm so proud of my girl, Cara.
She comes up to me with her 9/11 shirt that she got at the Memorial.
Cara: Wake me up at 6:15 and if I come out, not wearing this shirt, make me put it on.
Me: Ok
Cara: Can you find the imprint I made with Uncle John's name and the visitor pass that has my name on it.
Me: OK, are you doing something special at school tomorrow?
Cara: Well, I want to prove that I went there. So I need the stuff.
Me: I'm glad you want to show your class.
Cara: And its important that my class knows that its my uncle that was killed. And that the people killed were not just random people but uncles and relatives of someone you know.
I'm SOOOOOOO proud of my girl, Cara

The Everyday Project Day 295
Although I love my reality shows, I don't often have the time to take on a series. I don't like the crime dramas and my comedies are pretty limited to Big Bang Theory and Modern Family. My go to is anything on the Food Network. I started watching Under the Dome and I hope it doesn't head into confusion land like Lost.
While on vacation, I started watching Orange is the New Black on Netflix on my ipad. The reason I watched on my ipad is I don't want to interfere with anyone else's tv choices and I have Netflix. And I was up at 3 am NJ time.
Orange is the New Black is based on the memoir of Piper Kerman, a well educated, well off, engaged white chick. Kerman spent 13 months in prison in 2004, for getting caught laundering money for her heroin dealing, girlfriend 10 years ago.
Kerman is Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Shilling. Piper is just learning how to get by in prison, when who shows up but Alex. The girlfriend, Alex, is played by Laura Prepon from that '70's Show.
The characters are well developed and each episode details how one of the main characters ended up in the prison as well as the daily struggles, prison codes and relationships among the characters. It also showcases the creativity the women have by trying to make do with the basic prison issue stuff.
Ex: In episode 13, the last one in Season 1, an inmate known for not ever having spoken breaks out in song during the Christmas pageant wearing this crown made entirely of tampons.

The Everyday Project Day 294
I saw an intriguing recipe on a blog that I follow called Herbs and Oils World (http://www.herbsandoilsworld.com/) for Korean Honey Lemon Tea. It is supposed to be good for sore throats. As you well know, Colin had a tough time last year with the mono and the WPW procedure. I want to keep him as healthy as possible. Plus he likes tea. And Scott or Cara are always on the sore throat/headache merry-go-round soooo - and they like honey and lemons. Win-Win!!!
Not being one to sit around and wish I would make this or pin it on that timesuck Pinterest, I put out a post on Facebook to see if anyone had any spare lemons or to trade for limes. Turns out Nicole, the mom of one of my tutor kids, has a lemon tree and she was willing to give some up.
I love to have jars with stuff floating around. It looks so artsy and zen. (Well except for that vinegar and oil I opened at my dad's house. I'm thinking at least 10 years! You actually have to use the stuff in a reasonable time frame.) I think I am channeling my nana, my dad's mom. I'm pretty sure Nana would be proud.

Scorekeeper: Someone who keeps score
If you offer to do something for me, I assume you mean it and I will take you up on it if I need to. If I offer to do something for you, I assume the same.
Some will say: When you assume you make an ass out of you and me. However, in most situations I expect an offer to be true.
In other instances, if I see something or make something that will honor a person or I think a person will like it, I will give it to that person, no questions asked or assumptions made. If you do a favor for me and I thank you, it is heartfelt and nothing more is expected or required.
I don't keep score.
