The Everyday Project Day 136

Happy Easter and so sorry
For not posting yesterday. However, if you actually looked at my blog and just didn't wait for the email link, you would have seen the bonus Day 134 1/2. Looks like it only got 1 view. So you see, there are sometimes some hidden 1/2 posts. There you have it, secrets out.

I had to to go to the airport to pick up Phyllis during the time I usually write the post. Then we got chatting and I completely forgot. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks to those who were worried about me.

So for the 2nd time in 4 days I spent 2 hours at Urgent Care with Cara. When a kid is crying and asks to go the doctor, ya gotta go. Final diagnosis is a viral infection in her eye that is causing swelling and pain above her eye. She is to stay on the eye drops, ice packs, Advil and no computer, reading or Kindle. Hopefully she gets better soon.

After that it was mimosa time.
Notice the giant wine glasses. Mom and I got them when we went wine tasting during our Hearst Castle/Solvang trip a few years ago. ( miss you mom)

I actually read the paper today and part of my Oprah magazine while drinking mimosas. Then I made a fabulous Easter dinner of ham, lobster, steak, asparagus, potatoes and biscuits.  It was so good that I am loved and adored by the whole family and didn't have to do the dishes. Yea right...

Happy Easter and

FYI, its 11:15 pm. I have had a few glasses of wine. I DO NOT want to talk about the future of MMWLL . I really don't.

The Everyday Project Day 134

Well, I was right. My back is super sore today so I was going to try and take it easy. I even talked myself out f going to Gabby and Maria's Fit Girlz Camp in the park this morning.Well actually I slept through it. That means I needed the sleep.

Colin tells me he has no pants or shirt to wear to church tomorrow. Suffice to say, I would rather have a tooth pulled than shop with a teenage boy. Especially this one.

Me: Let's go to Kohl's. I have a 30% off coupon.
Colin: I hate Kohls. I want to go to Tilly's
Me: Fine. You did not even wear the last pair of pants I got you there. Not 1 time.
Colin: They're too small.
Me: I doubt it. They are size 28. I know that they are big in the waist. Are they too short?
Colin: eye roll. They are too tight in the legs.
Me: (in my mind). They are skinny pants and you are skinny and have skinny legs. How can they be tight?????
Me: to Colin. Here's the deal. I will get you 1 pants and 1 shirt at Tilly's. You had better wear them more than one time to church or I will not go there again. Its at least $150 everytime we go there.
Colin: Fine. Pout

We get to Tilly's. It's loud with the music and I can't hear Colin so I have to keep asking him to repeat. Then I get the never mind treatment. Thank goodness for Steven, the sales guy. He was really helpful and now Colin has pants that are not tight on the legs. And they were on clearance because they are not the style this season. So on to the $50 shirt.

Thennnnnnnn, we get home and the sensor is still on so I have to go back!

A nice surprise... Cara's friend's mom dropped off some cookies when she picked up Kaela. Orange flavored from their tree.

Baseball bracelets made with your kids Homerun or game balls. Pretty nifty, huh?

The Everyday Project Day 133

My back is going to be soooo sore tomorrow. Why, you ask? Was it the 2 RIPPED classes I felt the need to do with my friend, Maria and her sidekick  Gabby? Nooo. Was it the yoga class I took after the evening RIPPED class?  Nooo.

It was the 4 hours of gardening I also did today. I know, I know, I spent a little time on the crazy train today. Maria posted on her Facebook that the morning class was FREE. FR double EE. FREE. I can't pass that up.  What was I thinking? That I'm still 25...or 35.... or 45 for that matter????

I had it in my head that I was going to weed the front of my house. It has been getting overgrown for a year now. The spot has been covered up with this viney plant that was supposed to choke out and or cover up the other weeds and grass that was growing there. Its only a small patch but 7 black trash bags and 4 hours later, I was done. It sure looks good now...just in time for Easter.

I guess that's why we have a spa and Arnica Massage Oil. Man, that stuff is the BOMB!

The Everyday Project Day 132

Computers are such a time suck. Check the email, respond, check the bank account, update LL website, check Facebook, Like my friends stuff,  update LL Facebook,  check gym and yoga schedules because why take up brain cells remembering when I can check, check the kids Parent Connect, email teachers about missing assignments...

I spent an hour trying to find Easter Eggs on a bead website to try and win a $2500 gift card. When I looked at the leaderboard and saw my 35 were nowhere near the lowest person of 95, I gave up. Estsy? Pinterest? Ebay? Holy craft projects! I double stay away from those black holes of the Internet.

What did I do before my time was sucked up? Read books, read magazines, read the newspaper. I even watched Days of our Lives for 30 years!

The Everyday Projecf Day 131

It's been a long day of working in Ms. Patch's 5th grade, running around, and baseball.  Colin's team won 10-5 in 5 innings over the Clairemont Hilltoppers. It got called on darkness. It was the slowest game in the world. There is a dog park there and Pi was a hyper crazy mess. I won't take her there again.

The boys  were actually making the drama in 5th grade today. I had to give the talk about bringing up old and dealt with stuff. Don't write notes because I'll check in the trash. Don't call the teacher Dude and say friggin' to her. I don't want to hear it.

The Everyday Project Day 130

Cell phones are infuriating. Colin's last phone died and he is due for a new one. Since Scott got a new iPhone for work, we were able to work it so Colin could take over his number and unlimited data plan for a refirb iPhone 4. The key is the old unlimited data plan. That's why we can't leave AT&T.

We get the new phone. It doesn't work. We can't hear the caller. 2 hours Googling and with customer support. The end result is its a defective phone. They will send a replacement one...and place a $400 hold on my credit card until they get the other one back.

W get the replacement phone today. Same problem... 2 more hours. Now I am going to the Apple Store on Wednesday for a diagnostic since AT&T doesn't work with Apple products. I ask the guy if this is common. He tells me he never had this issue before. Either he was lying to make me feel better or he really hasn't.

What are the chances of 2 phones having the exact same problems? I'll keep you posted.

My newest yoga teacher, Gabby, said we should commit to a pose or two everyday to get our yoga in.  Today's pose is  Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand).

The Everyday Project Day 129

So today was a pretty mellow day. I went to yoga 🌈

We took a family field trip to the Miramar Landfill to get rid of the old spa cover and some other random junk.

I made some new bracelets and worked in the yard.

I did not accomplish my goal of sitting around reading the paper. That is always my Sunday goal but alas, it rarely gets accomplished.

Here is Colin's team after yesterday's win over Coronado, trying to make a pyramid. I guess that's why they are baseball players and not cheerleaders.

The Everyday Project Day 127

Well, it was bound to happen. The flu, congestion and especially sore throats have been passed around my family for at least a month. So far, I have successfully avoided it.... so far. I kind of felt really sore after RIPPED ( a class my friend teaches) and yoga last night and tired and achey today, although I did teach in Ms Wilson's kinder.

I even made myself a new pair of baseball earrings to wear tomorrow as well as worked on that pile of jewelry that I got from Thea.

I best get on my cure for illness... exercise and alcohol. Well, ok, just the alcohol 🍹

The Everyday Project Day 126

I was getting tired of my same Sirrius radio stations. My go to's are 36 AltNation, The Loft, The Bruce Springsteen Station, Dr Radio, Martha Stewert, 42 the Joint (reggae) and 2 (the one Cara likes). So I decided to give my dad's country channels a try. Prime Country and the Highway.

Car conversation with Colin:

Colin: Why are you listening to this redneck channel like Grandpa?
Me: I wanted a change. Is there something else you would prefer? Rap, hip hop?
Colin: I don't care. Why do you like this anyway? You never used to.
Me: Because its funny and you always know what you are getting.
Colin: Huh???
Me: Some songs are funny with their play on words.
Colin: This song is called I'm Pretty Good At Drinking Beer. What kind of song is that?
Me: All country songs have at least one of these thing... ( read in your country voice) lovin', lyin' drinkin', dyin',cheating', fightin', home, boots, jeans, guns, USA and trucks. Mostly trucks...
Colin: no way
Me: Just listen
Colin: Dang... You're right. Why do they sing about trucks?

The Everyday Project Day 125

I pick Colin up after school. He has been staying after to practice soccer with a few friends.

Me: Are you starving? You forgot your lunch today.
Colin: I know.
Me: You have money in your account if you need to buy lunch. Or did you forget your number?
Colin: School lunch sucks and the line is too long. What's for dinner?
Me: Want to go to Von's? (my main grocery store)
Colin: Why?
Me: Dad and Cara want soup. You can pick something from the deli.
Colin: Like what?
Me: A sandwich, chicken, whatever you want...
Colin: Can I get beef jerky?
Me: Not for dinner but you can get it.

So we go get our stuff and Colin remembers the beef jerky. Luckily we are right next to the aisle where it is. There are tons of choices
Colin: This aisle is awesome! jerky, seeds, beer nuts and beer! This is the Man Aisle!

The Everyday Project Day 124

Kind of a slow day in my world. I worked in Ms Bartig's K class and then Colin had a game vs Clairemont. They won 9-2 and Colin made the right field catch and throw to 1st to end the game. That's always good.

Scott made a post on Facebook about how LL is 100% volunteer and aside from some umpires, no one is paid. Andrew's mom thought we were all paid! So she shows up with the whole family to watch the game and help out. She and her boyfriend swept out the whole area and cleaned the tables. Nikki and another kid that was hanging around asked it we could open the Snack Shack and they would work it. So of course we did. We didn't make much but we made enough to pay the 2 umpires. Nice job Espiritu/Maron  and Crawford families!

The Everyday Project Day 123

Day 123, I like that.

Even with no games, I still am on the computer 2 hours dealing with LL. Emails, umpires, managers, holy 3 strikes!

I worked in a 1st grade class today. It was Cara's old 1st grade teacher. She is awesome but I gotta say it looked like a Post-It factory exploded in there. I have no idea what they all mean but I was afraid to touch them because I know how she is. And no lesson plans until her husband showed up right at the bell. The class was great and embraced Crazy Mix Up Day and the Teacher vs Students game. 5 minutes of extra recess works every time.

We got hit with a huge tax bill so I'll be working a lot more. I'm even considering adding 2 more schools. There's a step out of my Ericson comfort zone.

The Everyday Project Day 122

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You know I had my corned beef in the crock pot today. It was awesome as always. I tried a new cabbage recipe as told to me by Coach Mike Gardner as we were discussing our dinner plans yesterday. I roasted the cabbage (which I always do) with butter, sprinkled with brown sugar and pecans. Holy Shamrocks was that good!

Our good friends, the Clemen family joined us for dinner.

In my world, a day without drama is like a day without sunshine. LL at its best. Dealing with the fall out from yesterday.

I did have some time for bracelets. Check out the new leather. The red is really a maroon/wine color.

The Everyday Project Day 121

I would have expected better behavior from someone who calls himself a "professional umpire".

I get to Colin's game today and during the inning change, the base ump asks me who we use to umpire our games. I tell him we have volunteers and some paid in house people. He precedes to tell me why we should use his organization and how great it is, how all his umpires are super qualified, blah, blah, blah.

During the 3rd inning, I see Andrew, who is catching, throw off his gear and have a giant, crying, screaming meltdown. It seems  the plate umpire had told him he should learn how to catch and told the coach to take him out. Why, because he got hit a few times on passed balls! Dude, that's why you wear all that gear. And you are getting paid! And if you don't want to get hit, don't be an umpire and don't work Little League games.

None the less, you don't say that to a kid. And its not the umpires job to say that. Andrew said he was muttering under his breath the whole time before he lost it.

Scott goes ballistic and calls time and starts yelling at him. An arguement ensues. The base umpire comes in and says to Scott, "If you don't shut up, I'm going to toss you like a Caesars salad."

How professional. Needless to say, a complaint will be filed with the district as well as their Professional Umpire Organization.

I hear he didn't shut up the whole game, arguing with the fans, etc. I had to leave for Cara's game. We lost 17-7.

Not a day goes by...

The Everyday Project Day 120 1/2

Bonus post. Lets see who reads without the email reminder.

So I actually slept about 8 hours straight last night. I have been up since 5 am this morning. It's now 10:48 and I am not the least bit tired. Colin is asleep on the floor. Seth is snoring super loud on the couch. Pi is lying on her back with all 4 paws up in the air looking really  cute. I'm on episode 3 of Surviorman on Netflix for tonight and not in the least bit tired.  I'm guessing its a 4-5 hour night.  I am so sleep disordered. Will it be Duck Dynasty or Honey Boo Boo?.

So what's for dinner on Pi Day? Pie of course... Mac and Cheese and Apple. Had to go visit my friend Maria in her RIPPED class and yoga to work off enough calories for the feast. YUM!

Welcome home Pi!
What an awesome dog we have! I just love, love her.

Survivor update. Brandon Hantz is on the crazy train right off the island. He was my player in the pool I'm in. Oh well, I'm not sorry to see him go.

Speaking of the crazy train, a Little League in Arkansas held a fundraiser raffle. What did they auction off, you ask? Why an AR-15 assault rifle of course! The same model that was used in Sandy Hook. Why, you ask? Because that's how they roll in AK. Especially since the hog they raffled off last year only raised $10. Watch the video clip to see why I always say you need a passport to go to the south.

I had a little time for jewelry making today. I saw something similar in a catalog for  almost $150. I'll probably put it on Etsy for $40.

The Everyday Project Day 115

What a great day for baseball. Sunny, 70 with a view of Mission Bay in the distance.  Clairemont Hilltoppers have a great field. I love away games!

Colin almost hit an over the fence Homerun Grand Slam. Bases loaded and he slammed that ball. He just hit the bottom of the fence  and was held to a 2 RBI single. Awwwwww Nuts! He played the rest of the game well too.

Carnival- check. Opening day - check. Picture day -  check. All that's left is the basket auction and All Stars. And the actual games...almost forgot about those.

I had to remind our awesome treasurer that when you want someone to do a job, you have to let them do it, whether its the way you would do it or not.

Since last season she has been on me to get someone to be Picture Day coordinator. So I got someone, who did a good job today. She organized it and followed the instructions of the photographer. Whoever showed up, got their pictures taken. There will be a make up day some time in April. Simple as that.

Since games were rained out yesterday, the juniors had a make up game today at the Hilltoppers and it was unlikely that they would be back in time for their pictures. Soooo, they can get them done on the make up day. No problem. Something about that rubbed her the wrong way and she had her panties in a bit of a twist. I can say absolutely nothing bad about this woman. She goes above and beyond in so many ways. I could never have done my job without her. It was a little humorous to see her complain about the picture woman. I had to remind her that we were not in charge of this and let it go.

The Everyday Project Day 114

With baseball cancelled for today, I had some time to make bacon waffles for breakfast. Paula sent me a blog with a recipe. They looked so yummy that I bought a waffle maker at Kohl's. I scored with a 30% off coupon. They are heaven on a plate.
First cook the bacon. (I did this yesterday)

The complete batter.

I did baconify the original recipe by substituting the bacon fat and olive oil for the called for canola oil. Well, it's not like its healthy already...

The finished product.

We went to visit Pi today. We can bring her home on Thursday. Another dog was brought in with parvovirus so she is in quarantine .

The Everyday Project Day 113

Should we cancel, should we reschedule, what's the latest forecast???? That's what I have been listening to all day. Like the song says, "It never rains in Southern California, but it pours, man it pours." At least it did last night. If its actually raining, its so much easier than the weather watch that was going on today. At least by Scott. Me, not so much.

When the other leagues in our district started canceling games I was all in. We had some pretty hard showers today after a long night of rain. There is much more to consider when deciding to cancel than if it is actually going to rain tomorrow. Such as the wetness of the dirt and grass. When baseballs get wet, you can't use them. (I tried to dry a bucket of baseballs on cookie sheets in the oven after Colin left them out in the rain once. They stink)

And who is actually going to work on the fields and rake and move the dirt? Can you use the mowers of will they tear up a wet field? Will kids fall in a sink hole and twist their ankle. How much work will be undone by playing on wet fields? What about snack bar and the people scheduled to work? ( another major headache of mine)

And in my opinion, people would want to know the night before so they can have the next day free to make plans.

So after listening to all the scenarios,  I said, "Games are cancelled." Except for Juniors who rescheduled to 1 pm. But they can take care of themselves.

After 6 emails regarding picture make up day, which is not up to me and I was trying to let the picture day coordinator do her job, I finally had to set them straight. Then the picture day coordinator  sent out an email that said," Marybeth has spoken the final word." I LOVE that!

The Everyday Project Day 112

Bad parent alert!

I hate math. Positve numbers, negative numbers... who cares about negative numberes anyway. They are negative for crying out loud. I try to avoid negative stuff.

And I officially have never used algebra in real life. And I told Colin. Ohhhh bad. Never tell your kid that you don't need algebra. Actually I told him the only reason you need to know algebra is to do more math that I don't understand or care about.

For 2 days I have had to help Colin with math. We sit at the table and talk about what math losers we are.

Cara has the same class but different period. She gets the math.  Easily. I will pay her to help Colin. Any amount of money.

He will pay her to copy her homework. Sometimes I let him .

Ironic the new dog's name is Pi. And Cara can rattle it  off to about 14 places. Me? 3.14 will do it. Colin, " I like pie. What flavor?"

The Everyday Project Day 111

I hate skinny jeans.
Why, you ask? Because they are so stinkin' skinny.

I saw these in the Kohl's flyer. How cute are they. And I had a 30% off.

http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1176942/chaps-printed-skinny-ankle-jeans-petite.jsp

Off I go to Kohls to get them and they actually had them because my Kohls is one of the smaller.

Once I finally contorted my feet to get them through the leg opening, they fit fine except for the calves. I know I don't have big calves because I can always fit into boots. These jeans were so tight on my calves I couldn't even bend. I thought they put stretch in everything. Back they went.

On the way out, I saw these
http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1199340/simply-vera-vera-wang-splatter-skinny-jeans.jsp

Same problem. My calves were squished. I could never wear these. Can't they make regular legs???

Does it ever seem like you have been super busy all day but nothing really got done? That's me today. Although I could list everything I did today and it would seem like a lot, I feel like nothing really got accomplished. I guess a bunch of little things can add up to a full day.

Colin actually liked the shoes I got him. He has been wearing these ripped up shoes. The soles are almost off and they are not fit for a hobo. I think I have brought home at least 10 pairs that I thought he would like but he didn't. And he refuses to go to Kohls. Tilly's is a maybe. He is very picky and will only wear Vans and Supra. Supra are over $100 and I'm not buying them unless he kicks in half. I got him some purple Vans from Amazon and he said, "They are good." With no expression what so ever...

Opening Day tomorrow!

I spent the day tying up loose ends, collecting money and shaking my head in disbelief. No matter how many times you do something, tell people something, remind them and when they still don't know, Its like huh????

Quiz time:
Candy money is due BEFORE Opening Day.

When is the candy money due?
a) Before Opening Day
b) On Opening Day
c) After Opening Day
d) None of the above

We have 4 registration days, 2 assessment days, an All League Meeting and work party, the carnival, the field any time I'm there and my house any time when you can turn in candy money. Do the treasurer and I really need to be chasing the money tomorrow?

AND it has gone out in all of our communications that for the last 2 months that" Your child may not play on Opening Day unless all owed money has been received." Not that we would enforce it but still...Geez
